The Brief: Create the missing link.
This extensive period property lacked the archetypal formal garden, however the client wished to link the house and the formal garden with a ‘Natural' waterfall.
Extensive triple skinned walls are needed to retain the earth, faced with beautiful hand made bricks. Tens of tonnes of earth are bulldozed into position before construction can begin. Stone boulders weighing up to two tonnes each are painstakingly positioned to perfection to create this truly inspired waterfall.

The imposing pond set within the ‘Antique Yorkstone' paving leads from the house, enticing you to explore the garden, huge stone boulders ‘fall' down the bank, water cascading from one pool to another, finally crashing into the plunge pool from where it mysteriously disappears under the paving to reappear flowing into the pond. Subtle lighting brings the garden to life in the evening create a tranquil area in which to relax. The Italian designed lights lead up the side of the waterfall and across the hand made Hardwood Bridge to the entrance to the Formal garden.
The Formal Garden is a pleasure from all perspectives, the natural stone paving dissects the garden into four ‘Quads', each bordered by a Buxus hedge, inside of which are lush green lawns. The scent of both the English and French Lavenders can be recognized emanating from the raised features. Further lighting leads the eye to the central feature, with the period Urn upon concentric rings of hand chiselled stone setts, beyond which is the delightful wrought iron Gazebo, from where it is possible to rest and admire the magnificent house and gardens.
